ROLE OVERVIEW
The IAM Advisory Consultant must have a minimum of 5+ years of senior-level experience advising organisations on Identity and Access Management strategy, governance, and transformation programmes. This candidate operates at the intersection of business strategy and technology, guiding clients through complex IAM modernisation journeys including Zero Trust adoption, IGA programme maturity uplift, and cloud identity transformation. The IAM Advisory Consultant is distinguished from an IAM Engineer by a primary focus on advisory, governance, and programme leadership rather than hands-on development.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Lead IAM advisory engagements including current-state assessments, target-state architecture design, and programme roadmap development.
- Advise on IAM governance frameworks, access certification processes, and Segregation of Duties (SoD) controls.
- Guide clients through IAM vendor selection, RFP processes, and solution proof-of-concept evaluations.
- Develop IAM operating models, RACI frameworks, and organisational capability models.
- Advise on regulatory and compliance requirements related to identity including SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR, and SAMA/NCA.
- Lead workshops, stakeholder interviews, and executive briefings on IAM strategy and transformation.
- Provide quality assurance and oversight of IAM implementation projects delivered by technical teams.
CRITICAL SKILLS
- Exceptional ability to engage and influence CxO, CISO, and Board-level stakeholders on identity security strategy.
- Deep domain knowledge across IGA, PAM, Access Management, and Directory Services with broad architectural perspective.
- Strong business acumen and ability to articulate the business value and ROI of IAM investments.
- Proven track record of leading large-scale IAM transformation programmes from inception to delivery.
- Ability to navigate complex multi-vendor and multi-cloud IAM environments with competing priorities.
- Thought leadership capability including the ability to produce white papers, frameworks, and advisory reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the senior IAM advisory lead on client engagements, providing strategic direction and programme governance.
- Develop and present IAM transformation roadmaps, maturity improvement plans, and business cases for investment.
- Conduct IAM maturity assessments and benchmark clients against industry best practices and regulatory expectations.
- Oversee IAM programme delivery, manage client relationships, and ensure quality of advisory outputs.
- Advise on Identity Governance policy design, Joiner-Mover-Leaver (JML) processes, and access review programmes.
- Support pre-sales activities including proposal development, solution scoping, and client presentations.
- Mentor junior IAM consultants and contribute to internal knowledge management and capability development.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Systems, or a related discipline; or 5+ years of senior IAM consulting or advisory experience within a professional services, Big 4, or specialist cybersecurity firm. Certifications such as SailPoint Certified Consultant, Okta Certified Consultant, CISSP, CISM, or SABSA Chartered Architect are highly desirable.
